The Krugerrand shows its mettle

In 2017, the world's most popular collectable gold coin celebrated its 50th birthday. The coin, which traces back to 1967 has had a profound impact on South Africa both pre and post-apartheid.

The brief

In 2017, the Krugerrand celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years as the undisputed leader in the global gold coin market. The South African Mint marked this occasion with a new fine silver and platinum range and new sizes in the traditional gold range. To further commemorate the 50th anniversary, the SA Mint has also launched a series of chic limited edition fashion accessories featuring bracelets, scarfs, and lapel pins.

Breinstorm was appointed to design a coffee table book detailing the definitive history of the Krugerrand. Published by the South African Mint and Rand Refinery, the book highlighted the South African Mint’s specially designed Krugerrand stand that was showcased at the 2017 World Money Fair in Berlin.

The book is casebound with Kashgar cover material with debossed and soft-touch machine varnished details. Inside, divider pages feature rose gold metallic details that match the gold hue of the Krugerrand.
