The art of service delivery

How does one hold politicians to book for delivering on the promises they made during their election campaigns?

With Deliverology, a successful management methodology developed in the UK Education Department and now utilised in South Africa to communicate service delivery wins!

The brief

Breinstorm Brand Architects (BBA) was commissioned by the Office of the Premier of Gauteng Provincial Government to develop a visual language for the work of the Delivery Support Unit. The visual language had to operate within the strict guidelines of the province without looking too bureaucratic. This new look and feel would then be implemented in presentation templates across different departments.

For us, this was an opportunity to develop a visual language that would act as a rallying call for better service delivery by encouraging government employees and intelligently sharing policy goals and successes. With each piece of collateral we designed, we had to convey large amounts of data, along with the government's priority service areas

We looked at creating uniform dashboards across departments that communicated the "big wins" of each department, while facilitating a more holistic systems-thinking approach to service delivery.

The transformation

Iconic design

We created icons for 14 government departments working with the Delivery Support Unit under the Gauteng Provincial Government.

Using data to tell a story

For most people, statistics are difficult to comprehend, decode and disseminate. People are more likely to engage with statistics and data when it is presented in a simple way that is both informative and captivating.

Breaking down silos

We developed a cloud-based platform that allowed government employees in different departments to collaborate with the Office of the Premier in real time, to share data that could be turned into infographics.

Delivering successfully, and on time.

“The deliverology methodology has introduced an objective measurement of the performance of government departments, especially the performance of MECs and HODs. If you don’t do your work, you have nowhere to hide in our province. You will be exposed and get removed.”

- Premier David Makhura, Gauteng Province
